Seas and Coastlines
The coast and sea are inherent to the Omani identity. Stretching over 2,000km, Oman’s coastline is dotted with magical beaches and lagoons, and offers an incredible variety of sea life – from colourful corals and dolphins, to a wide variety of fish, rays and sea snakes. Even five of the seven known sea turtle species can be found throughout the Sultanate’s waters.
Oman continues to be a sea-faring nation, relying on the sea for fishing and transport. In local folklore, the sea remains a creator, giving birth to the mountains that protect its shores, delivering treasures from deep within, and providing a home to all the plants and creatures that live beneath.
